<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>The TMD system (Tuned Mass Damper), also known as the Inertial Mass Damper method, is applied in high-rise structures, towers, flagpoles, chimney-type structures, and similar constructions. The height of projects where the TMD system is implemented is typically greater than 120 meters. However, the primary factor is the ratio of the structure's height to its cross-section.</p> <p>Maurer prefers to design the TMD system using the simplest mechanism possible. This factor proves beneficial during installation, facilitates maintenance, and ensures long-term, reliable operation of the system. The system consists of a mass determined according to the requirements of the structure, as well as hydraulic arms that connect it to the structure.</p> <p>Maurer has 4 implemented TMD system projects in our country: Baku Tower, SOCAR Tower, the new Flagpole project at the State Flag Square and Khojaly Tele Tower. <content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>Various methods are used to ensure the seismic protection of structures. One of these is base isolation. Base isolation is a method typically applied to structures with a height of up to 50–60 meters. Its application to taller structures is also possible, although it introduces slight differences in the system design.</p> <p>The logic behind base isolation is quite simple. A bearing (isolator) is placed under every existing column of the structure. In addition to accommodating the loads generated during an earthquake, it is termed "isolation" because it decouples the structure from the ground. When base isolation is not applied, the structure is designed to be more rigid to absorb seismic loads. However, with the base isolation method, since these loads are accommodated by the isolators, there is no need for a rigid structural design, which results in significant savings in reinforced concrete.</p> <p>In many countries, base isolation is mandated by standards for certain structures. For example, in Turkey, the application of base seismic isolation is mandatory for all newly constructed hospital projects with a bed capacity exceeding 100. The global implementation of this system follows a similar approach, where it is largely required by codes for projects such as hospitals, hotels, business centers, airports, and similar facilities.</p> <p>MAURER has hundreds of different projects worldwide using this method. <content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>If an earthquake protection system is to be applied to a structure, the first step is to design the structure according to the requirements of the selected system.</p> <p>In conventional seismic design, the preferred approach is to design structures with high rigidity. In other words, the structure is designed to be sufficiently rigid to withstand loads such as earthquakes, wind, and other forces.</p> <p>However, in modern methods, such as foundation isolation, TMD, and similar solutions, the structure can be designed relatively lighter. This is because the selected protection system will absorb or mitigate the effects of seismic and wind loads acting on the structure.</p> <p>For example, if the foundation isolation method is selected, the seismic loads that the structure would otherwise be subjected to will be absorbed by the bearings (isolators).
