KINEMETRICS is an American company with wide experience in seismic monitoring, founded in 1969. KINEMETRICS’ key areas of activity can be described as developing solutions and providing technologies, products, and systems to monitor earthquakes and their impact on structures and people.

KINEMETRICS is one of the world’s leading companies with wide experience in studying earthquakes and their impact on structures. Seismic monitoring systems are primarily used in strategic facilities, multi-story buildings, and towers, as well as infrastructure projects such as bridges, viaducts, and tunnels. KINEMETRICS also implements its seismic monitoring systems (sensors and accelerometers) in several projects in our country. The nationwide seismic monitoring network in Azerbaijan was built by KINEMETRICS.

A brief overview of seismic monitoring systems. The developed products are placed at specific points in the structure. Sensors, accelerometers, and other devices installed on the structure 24/7 record its slightest movements, vibrations, and oscillations in three axes. This data is stored in the built-in memory of the products, after which the operator or engineer regularly downloads the data from the system. If the system includes software, the data is automatically uploaded into the system. Safety reports are automatically generated based on the data. The software automatically sends this data and reports to all authorized parties. E.g., an engineer in Baku can log into the system from his/her computer and view data and reports for any tunnel, building, or reservoir in Karabakh. This helps promptly identify events such as sudden earthquakes, as well as perform comparative analysis of collected data to forecast the future condition of the structure.

Seismic monitoring systems are used in the following types of projects: strategic buildings (data centers, archival centers, hospital-type buildings), residential buildings, multi-story buildings, towers, wind turbines, flagpoles, manufacturing enterprises, oil and gas plants, nuclear power stations, reservoirs and hydropower stations, bridges, tunnels, viaducts, etc.

The software provided by KINEMETRICS allows for controlling multiple structures from a single platform. E.g., if we apply this system to all reservoirs on an appropriate organization’s balance, we will be able to study data, reports, and information on all reservoirs from a single platform. This system is important for both private customers, who can examine all their projects in detail in a single system, and the public sector, which can centralize the monitoring of all strategic buildings and projects in one or more centers. This reduces extra costs and saves time and energy.
